Stamford Welland Academy is celebrating its first year under the sponsorship of Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust as they welcome their first intake of Year 7s. The number of Year 7s has doubled since last year’s intake with students coming from a greater number of feeder primary schools (11 in total). This year welcomes children from Uffington Primary, Ketton Primary, Linchfield ( in Deeping) and also Great Casterton Primary, as well as an increased number from Wittering, St Gilberts, Malcolm Sargent and St Georges.
Due to the increase in numbers, the Academy has been through a 12 month consultation process to change the Admissions Policy for those students wishing to join the Academy in September 2016. Although the number of students has increased to 120 for each year group, this still ensures the Academy remains small enough for each House within the Academy to only admit 40 students per year. One of the CMAT philosophies is that every child is known and supported, and maintaining these smaller numbers means this can continue. The Admissions Policy has also changed the point at which distance is measured in the case of over-subscription, with the point now being measured from Stamford’s geocentric position of Red Lion Square.
Stamford Welland Academy will be rolling out its new uniform this September to coincide with its first intake of students joining the school in Year 7. A very warm welcome to all those students and their families as they embark on their secondary school education. Watch our video below, with highlights from our first year.
