It is all change across Stamford Welland Academy’s core subject areas, as new teaching staff have been brought in to build on the quality of teaching provided at the academy.
Following on from the appointment of Hayley Twigger in September 2015, as Director of STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ), new Leader of Science, Lindsey Parker, will take up her appointment in May 2016. This will be an exciting time for the department as plans for new laboratories are developed this year.
Steve Bond also takes up position in May 2016, joining us from the ‘outstanding’ Arthur Mellows Village College, Peterborough,as Leader of Technology and Engineering. His appointment signals the introduction of a true STEM offering to our students with additional engineering opportunities brought into the curriculum.
There is also significant change within the mathematics department as Grace Smith has been appointed to head up the department.
Gemma Boyce, joining us from Thomas Deacon Academy, Peterborough and formerly of the Deepings School will take on the crucial role of Key Stage 3 Curriculum Leader, as well as teaching maths. Mrs Boyce will be responsible for creating an innovative and exciting curriculum for our Year 7 and 8 students as they transition from primary schools to ensure that progress made in Stamford’s excellent primary schools is built on in the first few years at the academy and provides a solid foundation for success in GCSEs and beyond.
Richard Spencer, a trust vice principal, is returning to teach English after Easter at the academy, having spent the last year seconded to Ofsted as a Lead Inspector.
We also welcome Patricia Lillywhite to the team, who joins us as Austen House Student Support Advisor. Mrs Lillywhite will join Mrs Lisa Taylor and Mrs Karen Mason in ensuring that students are fully supported from the House Offices at all times.
