Owen becomes radio star for the day!

Year 8 student, Owen Simmonds, got a taste of radio presenting last week when he appeared as the star guest on Hereward FM (Community Radio) show ‘Fergie and Cole’ .

The show is dedicated to Peterborough United football club where discussions around current form, signings and transfers of players take place. They also include a number of features such as ‘Quiz Cole’ where each week the guest pits their wits against  presenter Ray Cole to see whose POSH knowledge is better.

Presenter Luke Ferguson (Fergie) said ‘Owen made us all laugh and it made my day when he beat Ray in our feature ‘Quiz Cole’. We had a high number of play-backs from the show so we are hoping to have him on as a guest again soon – who knows -we might even look at creating his own feature!’

Denise, Owen’s mum said: “Owen was so excited about going on the show; I was really proud of him—he asked me to leave the studio – didn’t want his Mum cramping his style! It gave him such a buzz that he couldn’t sleep when he got home!’

Owen (12 years old) said: I really enjoyed it – who wouldn’t when they get the chance to talk about something they love! I think more young people should get involved in the station – its good fun and you get to learn so many skills. What I really want one day is my own show!’

Owen was such a great ambassador for Stamford Welland Academy that the owner of the radio station, Matt Kisby, has agreed to deliver some radio presenting sessions with our students. So if you are interested in taking part in such a session, look out for further details being published soon.

Well done Owen, it was great to hear your enthusiasm and confidence as you spoke articulately throughout the show. Your knowledge of POSH will be hard to beat!
