Congratulations to brothers Callum Theodore (Year 10) and Josh Theodore (Year 8) who took part in the first Young Muckers Rat Race at Burghley Estate last weekend with amazing results. Callum finished second overall in the Young Muckers race with his younger brother Josh finishing in the top 15. Stamford Welland Academy are proud of our students for taking part and raising money for Children with Cancer.
The new ‘Young Mucker Race’ offers a chance for 8 to 15-year-olds to get a taste for the world’s biggest obstacle run in a fun-sized serving. As part of the race, which took place at Burghley House near Stamford, the Young Muckers completed a 1.5km for 8 to 10 years or 3km for 11 to 15 years course, taking in the ‘School Daze’ zone from the ‘Full Mucker’ route, plus some obstacles created just for them.
Rat Race managing director and creator of the Dirty Weekend Jim Mee said: “We have seen more and more children coming to support their families over the years and we wanted to give them an opportunity to tackle an obstacle event themselves.”
With £5 from each Young Mucker entry going to the Children With Cancer charity, this was a fantastic way to raise money for a good cause.
Callum is already looking to his next challenge, “As I’d overlapped a few runners I was unsure of my position until I turned the last corner and realised I was second. I was really shocked at this but it has definitely inspired me to want to take on the full course next year although Mum says I should start with the 13 mile course first.”
And Joshua has caught the Mucker bug, “I really enjoyed my first young muckers race and although I was happy with my finishing position, especially after taking a painful fall, I’d really like to improve on it next year. ”
Kelly Theodore, mum to Callum, Joshua and also Hayden stated, “As parents we couldn’t be prouder of both our boys achievements in this and everything they do. They may not always be the best but they’ll always commit themselves 100% to anything they try.”
Well done to Callum and Josh, we are sure you will inspire some of our students to take part in the 2016 Young Mucker once again taking place at Burghley House, Stamford.
