‘We took 15 year 11 students to Paris at the weekend, leaving Peterborough at 6.20am on the Saturday morning and returning home late Sunday night. The idea was a whistle-stop tour of Paris, with a chance to practice their spoken French and taste the French cuisine. On arriving at Gare du Nord we left our bags at the Youth Hostel and went to La Defense to see the more modern side to Paris and shop. After that, we got a very packed metro to the Eiffel Tower and we took in the sights of Paris on a cruise on the Bateau Mouche. Later on, we walked along the banks of the river Seine to dinner at Flam’s, a restaurant serving the Alsace specialityFlammenkueches. On the Sunday, we went to the top of the Montparnasse Tower to see Paris from above. We then took the metro to the Arc de Triomphe, walked down the Champs Elysées to the Louvre and stopped for a well-deserved lunch in a café overlooking Notre Dame. The weather was hot and sunny, the students were fantastic and many of them now want to live in Paris as a result!
Highlights for me was the lovely group meal in a typical French café and the amount of French I heard spoken by students throughout the weekend!’ Ms. Thomas, Languages
