Intent Department Summary

Art, DT, Food at KS3  The department is made up of vocational subjects, to ensure that every student exceeds, we equip them with skills and knowledge that they will use in real life and academically. Every student participates in practical skills from our subject area as well as theory and contextual studies. They gain transferable life skills such as cooking, sewing and making. They can complete year 8 with a broader understanding of careers linked to our subjects and how the subjects sits within a wider context (transferable practical and digital skills). Project based learning is used to embed the required underpinning skills used to move on to KS4.​

Art, DT, Food & Media KS4  Opportunities given to all students to experience trips and visits to widen their cultural capital. Students are aware of what they can do next following a vocational pathway. Curriculum content prepares the students for their next steps. We ensure that there is a clear progression route by having links with our local FE provider Stamford College. ​

Literacy focus - SWA 6 Explicit Vocabulary use of the Frayer Model and tier 2 & 3 vocabulary​

Considering the 'whole' student - Mental health and wellbeing is incorporated into our subjects to give a wider personal understanding and that of others. We work on building strong awareness of health and safety during practical lesson. Students will cover subjects that range from designing for those with specific needs, healthy eating and studying artists with health and mental health issues. We raise cultural awareness and an understanding of others by delivering projects that include people from different backgrounds. The department works to build on an aspirational and enjoyable curriculum. This is extended with clubs and a variety of extracurricular activities.​
