Music

Music is a connecting thread across the life of the school enriching events and concerts wherever possible. We provide rigorous curricular music education along with peripatetic music lessons to support the gifted and talented. In KS3 we aim to build solid foundation of basic musical concepts and understanding of Tier2 vocabulary. We emphasize the importance of developing skills through hands- on approach and three-tier guide of experience-intellectualize-apply. The basics of musical notation is taught during the keyboard skills unit in Y7 and is used consistently across the curriculum.

In KS4 the focus is on developing skills of performance, musical production design and musical journalism. In Y9 and  Y10 the aim is to prepare students for the successful completion of the BTec course.

In extra-curricular activities we offer Choir throughout the academic year and Musical Theatre in the Autumn and Spring Terms. Students have opportunity to further engage in musical studies in one-to-one (peripatetic) instrumental lessons offered through private tutors and teachers of SWA.
