Dance and Drama
The aims of our department are to introduce students to an awareness of what Dance and Drama is and foster a love for these subjects.
Whilst learning and practicing creative techniques in both disciplines that the students will unknowingly be working on building life skills such as creativity, communication and dedication. Students will gain confidence that will help them throughout their time in education and build skills that will take them into the world of employment.
The curriculum journey incorporates challenging and engaging topics which allows students the opportunity to develop their capability, creativity and subject knowledges across both disciplines. These subjects provide all students with the opportunity to explore and develop a variety of skills and techniques, that are transferable into other subjects and the wider world.
The BTEC course at KS4 promotes involvement in Dance and Drama as performers. Students are given opportunities to participate in and interpret their own and others’ work. They investigate as practitioners and work collaboratively to develop ideas to communicate meaning and experiment with Dance/Drama conventions, forms- and techniques.
Within the curriculum topics covered in lessons also allows students from both KS3 and KS4 to be given a wide range of opportunities to perform and engage with performing arts events, such as; visiting local collages/theatres, taking part in local showcases and working on three school-based performances within the school year. This enhancing students' opportunity and abilities within both subject areas and giving them a taster of further education and careers options within Dance and Drama.
