Home School Communication

Honest and open communication is key to the success of your child.  It is only by working together, we can help your child achieve their dreams.

We don’t want to put ceilings on children’s achievement and need your support to help them succeed.

It is our goal to communicate with you, honesty and with integrity. If we get it wrong, we apologise, when we get it right, we celebrate, and the children come first in all we do.

We expect all children to meet our expectations of Aspiration, Resilience & Understanding. When students go above our expectations we take every opportunity to celebrate them. If they fall short, we tell them and support them to do better in the future.

We ask our families to commit to the same, help us celebrate and praise their efforts and achievements in all areas, support us when your child has done wrong and help us to help them to fix it. It is important that children and adults take responsibility when things go wrong.  Get in contact if you have worries or concerns, we don’t use social media to complain, instead talk to us by email, phone or in person. We can only fix a problem if we know it exists. Whilst we may not be able to agree on everything, we can always find a way to work together. However, it is also important to tell us when we are getting things right and when good things have happened. All staff work hard for students and they too enjoy hearing how you feel when things go well.

Our communication with our families

  • We send our termly newsletter to our families via email.
  • We regularly post the latest news and events on our Facebook page
  • For more urgent or important items, we will email you and ‘phone you too.

Our families communication with us

To support us in working with you at home, we ask the following:

  • Please ensure that you provide us with the most up to date email address and contact numbers so we can ensure our Management Information System is up to date and you can be contacted easily by staff using the system.
  • Your child’s tutor is your first point of contact if you have a non-urgent general concern. Our tutors all teach, so they will always get back to you but it may be in 24-48 hours.
  • If your concern is about a subject, please contact your child’s subject teacher. They are the best person to have an overview of your child. Our teachers are in the classroom all day most days, so they will always get back to you but it may be in 24-48 hours later.
  • If you have a more urgent concern, you need to let us know your child is ill or you need to get a message to them, please contact their House office. You can always leave a message for their Student Support Assistant (SSA). If you need to talk to them, they will always aim to call you back that day.

Student Progress

Our main method of communicating the progress of our students will be through their report. We will send you an email to tell you that a report is due to be coming home and to explain what the numbers mean.

Years 7, 8 & 9 get a report twice yearly

Years 10 & 11 get reports three times a year.

You will also receive direct communication (either by email or phone) from your child’s form tutor once they have conducted their 1:1 tutor interview after the report comes home.

You will be invited to one subject parents’ evening and one tutor meeting a year. Details of this can be found on our calendar
