Other information:
It is the students’ responsibility to check the date and time of their exams from their individual exam timetable. Students need to be in school by 8:30am each day. However, to support them, please ensure you are aware of these dates and times too. All examinations details, including seating, can be seen on the Examinations tab in Bromcom.
Examinations must not be missed unless there is an exceptional circumstance (e.g. hospitalisation). It costs on average £50 to enter students per subject, but this can be more for BTEC subjects or ones with multiple examinations. Should a student miss an exam without a valid reason (e.g. hospital discharge papers), we will ask you to pay the costs of that particular exam.
In the case of extreme illness, please ring the school immediately on 01780 761000 and leave a message. Please then obtain a medical certificate and send this to the school as soon as possible. Exam boards may award a grade, if only part of an exam or one from several for a series are missed, provided a medical certificate is supplied for these exceptional circumstances. However, nothing will be awarded for students who miss examinations for common illnesses.
Please do not book holidays during the examination series, as they cannot be rearranged and students will not be awarded any marks is missed for this reason. Please try to avoid holidays in half term too, as revision sessions will be provided by staff to support with revision for those examinations in June.
Results Day:
This year the results day for GCSE examinations is Thursday, 20th August 2026 when students may come to school to collect a school printout of their results between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. Exam results are issued on this date and the documentation issued must be kept safely until the certificates are issued to school in November 2026. If a student cannot attend school to collect their results in person, please let us know asap.
Additional Examination Information
Study Leave
There is no study leave for students during examinations. If students are not attending examinations, they are expected to attend all normal lessons. Staff are aware of when students have examinations and will plan accordingly.
Organising yourself for exam days:
Make sure that you know exactly when your exams are.
Make sure you have everything you need the night before – books you can take in, equipment including a calculator.
Be fresh, get up in good time, shower and EAT breakfast. This will help kick start your brain as it uses huge amounts of glucose in exams. Students who eat breakfast perform better in GCSE’s.
Please ensure you allow enough time to get to school so if you are delayed for any reason e.g. traffic, you will still arrive in good time.
Leave yourself time to go to the toilet before the exam.
Have water ready for the exam – don’t dehydrate and lose concentration.
Prepare equipment ready for the exams, including a spare of each item. You need to make sure that you bring in ALL relevant items for each exam, e.g. a calculator. Please make sure you also bring in pens, pencils, eraser, ruler and a sharpener in a clear pencil case or plastic bag.
Examination Advice:
Being nervous is normal and gives your brain extra adrenalin to help you make a final effort.
Listen to the teacher/invigilator for any last minute instructions.
Read the instructions and then read through the paper – don’t pick up your pen until you have done this.
As you read mark off questions you can do and then choose the best ones for you – check that you have chosen the right number of questions.
Spend the first couple of minutes writing down key formula or facts you are going to need so you don’t forget them or leave them out.
Know how many marks each section or question is worth and how you should split your time. If you run out of time write in note form to get some facts down but keep to your time limits – you can always come back if you have time at the end.
If you go blank at any stage leave that question, take a few deep breaths, turn over and do something else you can do. Come back to it and reread it slowly and calmly.
Exam Arrangements & Regulations:
If you are ill and cannot take the exam, you must telephone the school immediately and leave a message.
You must ensure you sit at the correct table.
Once inside the room, Exam Board rules state that you must be silent. If there is any communication between any students it will be assumed that you are cheating and will be treated accordingly. You must not talk until you leave the exam room.
We cannot stress enough how important it is not to bring in mobile phones, MP3 players or any other electronic device. Anyone caught with a mobile phone or electronic device whether it is turned off or not will be severely reprimanded by the appropriate Exam Board. You may be disqualified from that exam and any other exams.
You can bring a clear bottle of drink into the exam room. However, you are not allowed to bring in the following items:
- Canned or cartons of drinks
- Chewing Gum
- Any other food
You are not allowed to leave the exam room even if you have finished your exam.
Supporting your child with their revision
It is possible that more sessions will be added to this timetable nearer the time, in which case we will contact you separately.
If you have any further questions regarding the content of the examinations, please do not hesitate to contact the Subject Leaders. If you have any questions regarding the examination process, please contact (htwigger@stamfordwellandacademy.org).
